Budapest has an effective network of public transport services which includes bus, trolley bus, tram, metro, suburban railways (HEV) and river boats. Everyone is required to purchase a ticket before using these services. Tickes are available at metro stations, vending machines, news kiosk and from bus drivers before boarding. Tickets are required to be validated everytime you board a public transport vehicle. Failing to do this could result to being fined by ticket inspectors.

If you use public transport regularly, then its advisable to buy a monthly pass. Student and mothers travelling with kids are entitled to reduced rates. For more information on ticket types and prices, visit: https://bkk.hu/en/news/

An app (BKK FUTAR) which offers real time departure, full transport time table and trip planner is available for download from the Google and Apple app store.
