The Embassy of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria Budapest, located at Virányos út 4/a, a
prime area of the twelfth district, was opened in 1992 after twenty-eight years
of the establishment of Diplomatic relations between Nigeria
and Hungary.
The history of
diplomatic relations between Nigeria
and Hungary goes back to
1964 with Hungary having
diplomatic presence in Nigeria
since that period. The interests of Nigeria
were overseen, on concurrent accreditation, initially from Warsaw,
Poland, and then
subsequently from Belgrade, Yugoslavia, before effective presence in Budapest in 1992. The
Embassy presently has Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina
as its countries of concurrent accreditation.
The Mission provides Consular, Immigration and other services to Nigerians and other nationals. The Mission is also engaged in representational duties on behalf of the
Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on political, economic,
social, educational, humanitarian, cultural and other global issues
including promoting trade ties and supporting new avenues for economic
partnership between Nigeria and Hungary and other countries of concurrent accreditation.
The Embassy is currently headed by Mrs. Zainab Zakari - Awami in the capacity of Chargé d'Affaires a.i.
